The Half Moon Bay High School girls JV basketball team returned on Sunday following a successful weekend at the Chico State Team Camp, where they competed against teams from Oregon and California.
The Cougars played seven games over the weekend, tallying four wins and three losses, with a high level of play from freshmen Raymi Sharp and Iris Grant, sophomore Jayda Bodas and junior Jenny Montoya.
Coach Antonio Veloso said there were some glimpses of a positive future for the program, but it was even more important to see how the girls came together.
“This was the first time for the group to get on the floor together, and for some it was the first time they competed against other high school teams,” he said. “They all showed their ability to compete. They went out on fire and played their hearts out.”
The team is composed of incoming freshmen who played at Cunha Intermediate School as well as returning JV players from Half Moon Bay High School. The girls will continue playing and competing together over the summer as they prepare for next year’s high school team.
