Half Moon Bay Little League’s Goetz Bros. Junior Division team beat Belmont Redwood Shores Blue, 12-11, on Sunday to earn the division title.
Goetz Bros. took an early 5-0 lead, but in the third inning Belmont-Redwood Shores answered with three of its own. After the top of the sixth, the score was tied at 8.
Then Goetz’s Trevor Coruccini led off with a single and was brought in by Adrian Souza for the first of four runs that inning. Also contributing hits were Kai Zanetti, Jacob Hern, with two singles each. Devin Costa had a single and Aidan Vazquez had three doubles.
Outstanding defensive plays were made by Costa with a diving knock-down and tag for an unassisted out at first. Coruccini made a diving stop at shortstop and threw from his knees to make the out at first base.
Goetz Bros. beat San Mateo Red, 9-2, a day earlier to make it to the championship game. Zanetti pitched and didn’t allow a hit in five innings in that one.
