The Cougars were beaten on the boards and by a relentless Saratoga defense in a road loss. San Mateo ran out to a lead and finished strong in a 56-26 victory over Half Moon Bay on Thursday.

It was the first loss of the season for the girls team.

The Half Moon Bay girls lost in a competitive match that was not indicative of the score.

The deciding factor was a couple of unlucky goals and a penalty kick. The midfield of Janelle Harris, Morgan Day and Rachel Rodriques was fun to watch. The backfield showed major improvements over the last two matches with Abby McCauley, Veronica Krieger and Brianna Marshall rotating in at the center-back positions.
