The Half Moon Bay High School baseball team traveled to Sequoia on Thursday afternoon with a chance to automatically qualify for the playoffs, and the team did not disappoint, scoring in every inning but the second en route to a 21-1 rout.

Half Moon Bay jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first. Lukas Meighen started and earned the win, throwing three shutout innings. He was relieved by Josh Dybalski who threw two innings, while allowing one run. David Fisher pitched two shutout innings with four strikeouts. The Cougars smacked 23 hits on the day.

The Cougars won it in a wild sixth inning. Luke Outman attempted a squeeze bunt that was caught by the Sequoia catcher, who collided with the pitcher. Confusion ensued as David Fisher scampered home and Tristan Hofmann blazed a trail from first all the way to home to take a two-run lead.

It was a four-RBI day for William Moffitt, who had two hits for the Cougars. Zane Murphy earned the victory on the mound.
