Highway 1 was closed in both directions for more than an hour on Wednesday due to a rollover crash involving a mail truck. The incident was reported at 11:39 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 1 and Medio Avenue in Miramar.
The crash was categorized as a “major injury” accident and involved an overturned vehicle, according to a California Highway Patrol log of the incident. There was a U.S. Postal Service van on its side and authorities had called for a postal inspector to visit the scene.
Authorities say that crash involved two vehicles that were heading in opposite directions on Highway 1. The mail truck was headed south and a Subaru vehicle with two people aboard was headed north. Three people were taken to area hospitals. The driver of the mail truck suffered head injuries.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor. The cause is under investigation.
The road remained closed at 12:45 p.m., though dispatchers indicated it could re-open about 1 p.m.
