The woman's body found floating in the ocean Sunday morning near the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay on Sunday has been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner's Office as Frances Pierce. She was a 75-year-old resident of Portola Valley.
Pierce was found at around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday by an off-duty Pillar Point harbor patrol employee who was fishing in the area.
The employee alerted the Harbormaster's office to the situation and the on-duty harbor patrol arrived to retrieve the body.
Officials said, at least initially, that the woman's death didn't seem to be suspicious.
“It didn't appear that there was any foul play,” said San Mateo County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rosemerry Blankswade on Sunday. “She still had some jewelry on her.”
The Review is awaiting an update from the Sheriff's Office for further information.
