Updated 3:23 p.m.: Roadways are reopened on Highway 1 near Montara after a motorcyclist collided with a sport utility vehicle.
The motorcyclist and a passenger were badly injured from the collision on Highway 1 in Montara on Tuesday afternoon. The man and woman, reportedly in their 50s, are from British Columbia, according to California Highway Patrol.
Coastside firefighters reported they just happened to be passing by shortly after noon on Highway 1, between 14th Street and Farallone Avenue in Montara, when they saw the motorcyclist down.
The motorcyclist grazed and hit a vehicle after it stopped suddenly and moved to the right, according to CHP. No injuries were reported from the driver of the vehicle.
The Life Flight helicopter was en route by 12:30 p.m. Both the man and woman sustained major head trauma, according to CHP. The helicopter was expected to land at the Half Moon Bay Airport and the injured carried there by ground ambulance.
Roads were closed for approximately 30 minutes, according to California Highway Patrol.
