San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a dead body Sunday afternoon. It was discovered in a field not far from Venice Beach. Today investigators are working to determine the identity of the remains.

Deputies were called to the open space between the beach and Highway 1 at about 12:45 p.m. on Sunday. They located the body in a homeless encampment on the site.

A brief press release Sunday night said the Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office were investigating the death. The body had not been identified as of Sunday night.

Anyone with any information about the death is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office’s anonymous tip line, (800) 547-2700.

That area was partially cleared of vegetation and encampments were cleared about a month ago. On Friday I walked the entire area checking for interesting birds one might see after the clearing of large swaths of vegetation. I saw remnants of encampments but nothing that looked active - still lots of trash and piles of old belongings and tents and sleeping bags, etc. that had not been cleaned up by whoever cleared the vegetation.

Glad I was not the one to discover this unfortunate person.
