The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested two suspects on Friday in connection with the armed robbery that occurred at Goldworks on Feb. 8.
The suspects, 25-year-old New York resident Jebediah Deangelis and 24-year-old Kevin Malone of Florida were stopped by the local police on Interstate 70 in Marion County, Indiana.
The police stopped the vehicle for code violations and located a weapon and other evidence that directly connected to the Goldworks robbery, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office stated in a release.
The suspects were arrested without incident and are in the process of being extradited to San Mateo County for the charges of felony armed robbery, officials say.
Goldworks owner Josh Warshauer said the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office had photos of the suspects within a line up of photos and Warshauer said he was able to identify the man who held the gun up to him.
The jewelry storeowner learned that his shop was not the only one the pair had allegedly robbed. Police reportedly found jewelry in the vehicle belonging to Warshauer and other items taken from stores in other states.
Warshauer said it feels good to learn of the arrests. The relatively speedy arrest sends the message that such robberies don’t pay, he said.
“We do have each other’s backs here on the coast,” Warshauer said. He credited security cameras, smart policing and spread of the photos on the Web with making the arrests possible.
“In this day and age how far are you going to run?” he said.
