Coastal Repertory Theatre’s “Run for Your Wife” is shaping up to be a rip-roaring good time. That is, if British farce is your cup of tea.
The play follows a taxi driver as he tries to outrun the fact that he’s married to two women who have made homes in separate areas of London. The double-dealing husband is able to get away with this debacle because of his irregular working schedule.
“The lead character, John Smith, ends up in the hospital, and, being slightly concussed, gives out both addresses for both wives,” said director John Baldwin. “He then tries to prevent people about finding out about his situation, because bigamy is a crime. The more he tries to make it better, the worse it gets.
“The play has a lot of nice twists and turns,” he continued. “It’s hilarious.”
There are ample opportunities for the community to take in the show.
The local branch of the American Association of University Women is hosting a fundraiser to benefit its empowerment programs. There’s also a community night for budget-conscious folks who can pay whatever admission they’d like.
Tickets for the AAUW fundraiser at the Coastal Repertory Theatre’s production of “Run for Your Wife” cost $30, $20 of which is tax deductible. That includes a pre-show reception, silent auction, as well as wine and music. Proceeds benefit local young women by providing opportunities for them to attend Tech Trek camp at Stanford or a summer STEM camp in Half Moon Bay.
The organization also provides research and project grants as well as scholarships for area high school grads preparing to enter their third or fourth year of college.
The fundraiser is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 21. Make your check payable for $30 per ticket to AAUW-HMB, P.O. Box 1414, El Granada, CA 94018. For more information, contact Nina at (650) 560-9025.
“Pay What You Wish” community night is set for 8 p.m. on March 23. To reserve seats, visit coastalrep.com.
