It took just two wins for the Half Moon Bay Waves 12-and-under softball team to qualify for the Western Nationals, taking place in Salem, Ore., later this month.
None of the players were satisfied. The Waves wanted more from the qualifying tournament that took place in Santa Clara, June 28-30.
The Waves ended up fourth in the 16-team tournament.
Since then, the team has increased the number of practices and intensity of the practices.
“We want the kids to get in condition,” said coach Mike Sarabia.
Sarabia has no idea what to expect in the tournament. But he wants the players to be prepared for just about anything. Diane Inglis, a parent of one of the players, is helping with the conditioning.
“I’m excited and the kids are excited,” Sarabia said. “It’s now time to start selling raffle tickets and raising money.”
The tournament goes from July 30 until Aug. 5.
