Third baseman Jared Mettam was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored as the Half Moon Bay Pirates 8-and-under team defeated Serra, 10-7, to win the Sunnyvale Lakewood Pony Baseball Memorial Weekend Tournament.
Half Moon Bay went 6-0 in the tournament.
David Nieves, who was also 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI, made the game-winning catch in left field. Tanner Bye was 3-for-3, and scored three runs. Coleman Colucci was 2-for-3 with a homer and scored twice. Gavin Giacotto and Diego Ryan both went 2-for-2. Quinn McCauley added two hits and drove in a run.
The Pirates advanced to the finals with a 16-7 win over San Carlos. Nieves paced the offense, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBI and he scored twice. Owen Wooliever was 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and scored three runs. Mettam was 3-for-4 with three doubles, including a bases-clearing double. He finished with five RBI and scored twice. Ryan was 2-for-3, as were William Moffitt and Sam Lowings.
Half Moon Bay began the final day of the tournament with an 8-5 win over Cambrian in the quarterfinals. Wooliever was 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and he scored twice. Moffitt and McCauley both doubled. Giacotto and Parker Nishkian both singled and scored.
Half Moon Bay rolled through pool play. It began with a 15-8 win over Belmont. Ryan went 3-for-3. Moffitt, Colucci, Mettam and Nieves each added two hits.
That was followed by a 13-0 win over Los Altos/Mountain View. Moffitt and Wooliever both went 3-for-3. Ryan was 2-for-2 and started a double play.
Pool played ended with a 10-9 win over Redwood City.
Mettam was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Lowings was 2-fo-r. Nieves, Colucci, Moffitt and Bye were all 2-for-3.
