All-star teams drop openers

Two Half Moon Bay Little League All-Star baseball teams dropped their opening-round games of the District 52 Tournament Saturday, with two more teams waiting to their tournaments.

The 9- and 10-year-old team lost to Alpine, 9-4. Down 4-1 after four innings, Half Moon Bay rallied to tie the score. Alpine scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking the lead for good. Dwyer Lewis collected two run-scoring singles.

Half Moon Bay plays Redwood City American at noon, Sunday at Pacifica.

The 10- and 11-year-old team fell to the Highlanders, 6-2.

Payton Pastorino hit a two-run homer for Half Moon Bay in the bottom of the sixth.

Half Moon Bay plays at 5:30, Monday at Redwood City. Its opponent will be determined Sunday.

Both those teams must win their remaining games to win the title.

The 11- and 12-year-old team plays Alpine, 11:30 a.m., Sunday at Highlands Park in San Carlos. The winner of the game next plays on Wednesday while the loser plays Monday.

The Junior All-Star team starts its tournament at 5:30 p.m., Monday, playing Pacifica at Half Moon Bay High School. The winner plays Redwood City at Tuesday at 5:30, Tuesday, the loser plays Thursday.
