Driving can help in maintaining an active lifestyle as it is woven into the fabric of our culture and is a basic rite of passage in our society. After all, we drive to get to the market, places of worship, to access our support systems, participate in the community, and sometimes just to get away.
Do you need to talk? Would you like to meet others who are caring for family mambers?

It's nearly 4:30 a.m. as my eyelids flutter open. Beneath my window, I hear Mallku softly playing a Peruvian melody, "Sueños del Paraiso," (Dreams of Paradise) on his flute. And I remember: I must shove my suitcase outside the door by 5 a.m., stuff enough items in my backpack for an overnight stay, eat breakfast and be out to the coach by 6 a.m. The music of the flute serves to calm my nerves.

Lloyd Burley was burly, handsome with curly dark hair, very strong and athletic. He was also my sister Lorraine's new husband. He always wore a smile and the latest fashion. Lloyd loved to regale us with jokes, and he always had a story at the ready.
Holidays provide us a chance to get together with loved ones we may not have seen for a while. Sometimes we are surprised at what we see in their behavior. When seniors are isolated, they can lose touch with daily routines and the outside world. Early signs of dementia and failing health might be exhibited in a number of ways.

I hope they returned home to talk about these matters with their families. It is never too soon. It need not be set in concrete. Give it a chance to develop.

The room was festively decorated for the occasion - colorful balloon motif tablecloths, brightly wrapped candy and, of course, flowers. We had been asked to bring photographs of ourselves at the age of 20 or 30, and here they were all spread out before us.
