Two drivers were taken to the hospital on Monday morning following a head-on crash that completely shut down rush-hour traffic on Highway 1 at Devil’s Slide.

The crash occurred around 7:10 a.m. when a southbound vehicle crossed the yellow divider line into oncoming traffic, according to California Highway Patrol officials. The driver collided into a northbound car, and the wreckage impeded most of the two-lane highway.

Traffic was completely halted on the highway for nearly an hour. CHP troopers began rerouting cars and directing one-way traffic around 8 a.m. Devil’s Slide was completely reopened at 8:30 a.m.

The northbound driver reportedly suffered a broken ankle and was taken to Stanford Medical Center. The southbound driver complained about aches and pains and was taken to Mills-Peninsula Hospital.

Welcome to the discussion.

The take-home thing here is "...crossed the yellow divider line..."(actually a DOUBLE yellow divider line). My wife and I travel Devil's Slide almost daily and we see repeated crossing-over the center line. People drive curves like they're on a road race track and need to cut off the curve... It's not only rude to oncoming traffic, but so highly dangerous. Grrrrrr!

I heard the sirens at 7:10 a.m. here in Moss Beach. 'Never a good sign. For those trying to get to work in The City, my condolences. My spouse used to travel to Colma BART and then into The City. He now drives to work in Mt. View. He said 92 "Had it's issues" but it still took him just an hour to get to work. He left at 7 a.m., before the accident. I hope those involved in the head-on are OK. It is something I think about every time I drive the Slide. I know the road, but others don't.....and it just take one wrong turn of the wheel, looking at the scenery, to make for a Bad Day for all concerned.

If the road was reopened to oneway traffic at 8am can some explain to me why, at 8:15, the 'kindly' officer manning the Montara end turned me around and told me the road would be closed all day?
