The Sewer Authority Midcoastside is facing a new lawsuit from a disabled employee who alleges he was treated like a “black sheep” after a back injury left him unable to work.

The plaintiff, John Szabo, of Half Moon Bay, has been working for the sewer agency since 2003, but he says his career was derailed after suffering unspecified workplace injuries. After taking months off on disability leave, SAM officials refused to allow him to return to work and began pressuring him to retire, according to the suit.

Szabo indicated he would file a lawsuit starting in late 2010. Since then, sewer officials and his attorney have tried to work out a deal through legal arbitration. The case went to a civil suit after no agreement could be reached.

Both parties are scheduled to discuss the case in October.

Welcome to the discussion.
