Two men were arrested following a fight at the Moonridge housing complex Sunday afternoon. San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies initially responded to a reported gang fight involving a gun, but when they arrived on scene they found a much more limited skirmish.
The call came in at 2:43 p.m. Sunday. The caller said there was a “gang fight” in progress on the sports field at Moonridge, according to Detective Rebecca Rosenblatt of the Sheriff’s Office. When they arrived, deputies saw one of the combatants, 23-year-old Rubin Molina, leave in a car driven by another man, 19-year-old Miguel Garcia.
The car didn’t get far, crashing into a parked car on nearby Salal Road. Deputies detained both men. Garcia was charged with felony evading of an officer and Molina was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and drunk in public. The California Highway Patrol was also investigating whether Garcia was drunk while driving the getaway car.
Rosenblatt said there was apparently no gun at the scene and there was no indication that the incident was gang-related. Molina reportedly used a stick in the altercation.
