Antonio Veloso has been named as the new Half Moon Bay High School girls basketball coach.

Most of his coaching stops have been in the Bay Area. He began as the freshmen coach at Mitty High School in San Jose, before going to Menlo College, Santa Clara and a three-year heading coach stint at the University of Great Falls. While there, he was also the college’s athletic director.

“I am excited for him to come on board,” said Half Moon Bay vice principal Jarrett Dooley. “He’s a natural fit.”

Veloso was a team manager at Santa Clara from 1993-1996. He graduated from Santa Clara in 1996 with B.A. degree in philosophy.

He replaces John Carey, who stepped down at the end of the 2011-12 season.
