The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man suspected of driving under the influence following a crash that occurred on Highway 92 on Monday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., a vehicle was seen driving recklessly on Highway 92 before it collided head on with another driver who was traveling in the opposite direction near the Hilltop Mobile Home Park, according to San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rosemerry Blankswade.

A woman driving in the other vehicle had to be extricated from her vehicle and was transported to a local hospital.

The man suspected of drunken driving initially couldn’t be found, Blankswade said, but was later seen crawling out of his vehicle and hiding from law enforcement.

Responding deputies and paramedics reported that the man smelled of alcohol, Blankswade said.

Highway 92 was closed for a period immediately following the crash.
