A fire on a power pole knocked out electricity for about 103 customers on the Midcoast early Monday morning. Power was restored to everyone by about 9:30 Monday morning, according to PG&E.
Company spokesman Joe Molica said the culprit was the combination of good weather followed by dense fog. He said the lack of fog last week allowed dirt to build up on the wires on a pole at the intersection of San Carlos Avenue and Columbus Street in El Granada. Thick fog on Sunday created a mud on the line that conducted electricity to the wooden crossbar on the pole.
“It’s got to be this perfect set of circumstances for something like this to occur,” he said. “Generally, on the coast, because we experience fog so much, it washes the dirt away.”
Anyone who experiences an outage is asked to call PG&E’s 24-hour hotline, 1 (800) 743-5002.
