Celebrate New Year’s on the Coastside

Local restaurants, clubs party to welcome 2012

It won't be long before Coastsiders will get out their whistles, noisemakers and fancy duds to party in a new year. And on the Coastside, in addition to private parties and gatherings, there are plenty of places to party on the night of Dec. 31.

Here are some ideas, listed alphabetically:

• Apple Jack's. 747-0331. Come to a party, with rock by Saxxy Man and the Lads, from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., with a champagne toast at midnight.

• Café Gibraltar. 560-9039. From 6:30 p.m. until midnight, festivities include a five-course meal, a jazz quartet and a champagne toast at midnight.

• Cameron's Inn. 726-5705. A celebration for children, meant to coincide with the ball dropping in New York's Times Square, begins at 9 p.m. in the game room. A California-time party and countdown will follow with country-rock music by the Robin Campbell Band, party hats and favors and a champagne toast at midnight.

• Cetrella. 726-4090. A party with jazz music by Dore Coller and Fourplay will begin at 7:30 p.m. and run until midnight, with party hats and a midnight champagne toast.

• Crab Landing. Celebrations begin with a multiple-course dinner at 8 p.m. with music presented by deejay Ken Seidler.

• Flying Fish Grill. 712-1125. A multiple-course meal and a party from 9 p.m. till 1 a.m. is planned.

• Half Moon Bay Brewing Company. 728-2739. In its annual tradition of presenting New Year's Eve revelry early, the live band Blue on Green will perform Celtic and Americana rock music beginning at 5 p.m. They will ring in the New Year at 9 p.m. - midnight on the East Coast. Expect dinner specials too.

• Half Moon Bay Sports Bar and Grill. 726-5600. Celebrations begin at 8 p.m. with a reggae band and a champagne toast at midnight.

• It's Italia. 726-4444. Two dinner seatings with reservations are planned, with upbeat jazz music by Gypsy Tribe scheduled for the second seating from 9 p.m. to midnight, plus a champagne toast at midnight.

• La Costanera. 728-1600. Revelry with deejay Chris Fox is planned from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. For $30, partygoers are passed appetizers, participate in a midnight champagne toast, dancing and party favors; for $65, you get all of the above plus an open bar.

• Mezza Luna. 728-8108. New Year's Eve will be celebrated with a multiple-course dinner and dancing to a deejay.

• Mountain House (650) 851-8541. Opening for dinner with the last seating at 10:30 p.m., the evening's festivities in La Honda will also include music by Blue for dancing from 9 p.m. till 1 a.m. with a midnight champagne toast.

• Old Princeton Landing. 728-7096. Three deejays - Maleko, Project Puffalo and DJ DM - will head a dance party from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m., with a midnight balloon drop, champagne toast and drink specials.

• Pasta Moon. 726-5125. Entertainment by Mark Owens, who has opened for Dave Mason, David Crosby, the Association and more, with John Vaget, from 9:30 p.m. until midnight. Also party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.

• Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay. 712-7000. A New Year's Eve celebration includes a champagne bar, deejay and live music, and a midnight balloon drop in the lounge and bar area. There will be live entertainment and multiple-course dinner in the observatory and Navio.

• Sam's Chowder House. 712-0245. Regular menu with Stan Erhart Band, blues and rock, beginning at 6 p.m.

• San Benito House. 726-3425. Live music and regular drink specials will usher in celebrations beginning at 8 p.m.

• Sullivan's. 747-9220. Live music - rock, R&B, blues - will begin at 7 p.m. A holiday menu is also available with a champagne toast at midnight.

• The Wine Bar. 726-0770. The Wine Bar is closing and the New Year's Eve party will be its last hurrah, with live music by Mark Kostrzewa, Chi McClean, Marty Atkinson & Katy Boyd, Jay Howlett & Rolf Wyer, Teddy Randazzo, and Kimberlye Gold, Steve MacKay and Mike McKevitt playing in a farewell celebration until closing. Light food.
