In a latest step in his quest to create photo images that uniquely capture the feeling of a place, Half Moon Bay-based artist Dan Ambrosi has installed a metal-print collection at the St. Helena Wine Center.
It joins other Ambrosi installations in Tahoe City and Half Moon Bay.
Ambrosi’s approach to image-making hinges on his background in architecture, computer graphics and marketing. Photography is only a simple first step.
A magical common denominator in his technique is a software workflow which seams dozens of photos together into a single detailed image. Though Ambrosi does not transplant elements such as clouds or animals from one image to another, he uses technology to “capture and convey my visual experience,” he said.
Metal prints are Ambrosi’s medium of choice for his locally themed panoramas, since they are inherently vivid and detailed, and also frameless, glassless, lightweight, archival and affordable.
The wine center is located at 1321 Main St. in St Helena. It can be reached at (707) 963-1313.
