The South Coast lighthouse has been closed for repairs and the nonprofit State Parks Foundation has been raising funds to rehabilitate the lighthouse, one of only five listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“This bill will rehabilitate some of the 14th Congressional District’s most historic sites,” U.S. Rep. Eshoo said in a prepared release. The funding is part of a $3 million package of projects she has put forward for funding.
“Pigeon Point Lighthouse has been a landmark of the Coastside since it first began aiding seafarers in 1872,” she said in the same release. “The funding I requested and which was approved by the subcommittee will help the Park Service repair Pigeon Point Lighthouse so visitors can once again access this remarkable structure.”
Having passed the Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, the bill now heads to the full Appropriations Committee for consideration.
An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed the California Coastal Conservancy as the lead organization raising funds to repair the lighthouse.
