Help give Puente a makeover

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Apr 21, 2010 - 10:59:00 am PDT

Puente de la Costa Sur, the South Coast nonprofit that provides a host of social services, is getting a makeover.

No, it’s not an extravagant cosmetic changeover. Rather, it’s an afternoon of painting to spruce up the exteriors of Puente’s main office, learning center, counseling spaces and outbuildings.

“The goal is to beautify this important resource that is used by 30 percent of the people who live on the South Coast,” said Puente Executive Director Kerry Lobel. “We want the outside to match the spirit of the inside.”

Lobel hopes 100 volunteers turn out to dig, paint, roll, scrape and cheer on workers. Support can also take the form of cooking for the workers, if you want to help but do not want to paint, she said.

It’s all scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. Wear painting clothes and a hat, and dress in layers. Brushes, rollers, shovels and paint are provided (though if you have a favorite tool, bring it along), and so are snacks, water and lunch.

The project is being done in partnership with Rebuilding Together Peninsula, which does makeovers for nonprofits and is partnering with Puente. The project is under the leadership of Mediterraneo Design and Build.

To volunteer, contact Veronica Ortega, 879-1691.
