Everything was going along fine for the Half Moon Bay High School boys’ soccer team, Friday.

The Cougars controlled the first half of the Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division match, and led 1-0 at halftime over host Aragon.

Then, the rain came, and everything went downhill from there for the Cougars.

The Dons scored twice, on penalty kicks, and prevented the Cougars from doing much of anything. The result was a 2-1 win to begin the start of the second half of the season.

Half Moon Bay ended the first half of the season two days earlier with a 4-1 decision over Mills.

The Cougars sit in fifth place with a 4-4 record, 4-5 overall.

Half Moon Bay hosts South San Francisco today and plays at El Camino, Friday.

Half Moon Bay took the lead midway through the first half on a goal by Miguel Carrillo, with Miguel Vasquez getting the assist.

Aragon used its quickness in the second half to assume control of the match.

The penalty kicks, one coming early in the second half and the other coming with 10 minutes left in the match, doomed the Cougars.

“Anytime you allow two penalty kicks, that knocks the wind out of you,” coach Victor Mederos said. “But Aragon is a good team.”

The win keeps Aragon’s hopes alive for the league title.
