MCC may remain one member short

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Feb 03, 2010 - 11:04:23 am PST

No one had applied to fill the vacant seat on the Midcoast Community Council by Review deadline Tuesday. The deadline was 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The council’s board seats seven; six people currently preside. They are Midcoasters Leonard Woren, Neil Merrilees, Deborah Lardie, David Vespremi, Len Erickson and David Hankin.

During the past two months, two prospective appointees withdrew and a third, Hankin, filed paperwork and was appointed.

Having an even number of board members is a bit of a setback in that it could stifle action through 3-3 votes. If that happens, the board will table agenda items until the board achieves an odd number of members, said Chair Neil Merrilees.

In the meantime, Merrilees said the board would continue to push back the filing deadline.
