A 56-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon in a car parked in the Mavericks parking lot, San Mateo County officials say. She was believed to have been a Coastside resident, though her name has not been released by authorities.

At about noon, the woman and her husband returned to their car following a walk on the beach. Their car was parked in the dirt lot at the end of West Point Avenue in Princeton. According to the authorities, the husband told county Sheriff’s deputies that he left the car for a short period of time while his wife stayed inside; when he returned she was “unresponsive,” said San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault.

Sheriff’s Lt. Ken Jones said there doesn’t appear to have been foul play.

The woman was transported to Seton Medical Center Coastside, where she was pronounced dead. The car was towed.

Foucrault inspected the woman’s body at the medical center and said the death was not water-related. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
