El Granada School claims prize for mural

Published/Last Modified on Tuesday, Dec 22, 2009 - 03:21:52 pm PST

The holidays grew happier for the new Harbor Village shopping enclave with the “Happy Harbor Holidays” poster contest featuring murals by students of Coastside elementary schools, and also for El Granada Elementary School, which won the contest’s $500 first prize.

The participating schools included Kings Mountain, Farallone View, Hatch, Pescadero and Wilkinson elementary schools in addition to El Granada. The students created murals displayed in the shopping complex in a contest organized by Harbor Village merchants. The winner was selected by public votes. El Granada took the prize with more than 200 votes for its poster featuring mittens and photos of students in holiday hats, said merchant Chris Overfelt.

“We felt it was really successful,” said Overfelt of the contest. “We’re glad we did it.”
