McCarthy, of San Carlos, is trying her hand at crafting drama in her first feature film venture, “Love on the Line,” a story of “love, loss and loyalty” set in the modern age of Internet dating in the Bay Area. An interwoven narrative chronicles the lives of two sisters from Ireland who unravel secrets about their family and relationships.
McCarthy’s company, Irish Dream Films, is wrapping up a three-week shoot today at Surfer’s Beach. Other scenes were filmed in Princeton, La Honda, San Francisco and various cities on the peninsula. McCarthy estimates about one-third of the final product will take place on the Coastside.

“Princeton area is becoming more and more a destination location, with the advent of the Oceano, the Brewing Co., the other eateries, the beauty of the beaches and the Mavericks Surf Competition, obviously,” said Wayne Meyer, Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. marketing and sales director.
McCarthy didn’t care so much for the name as the area’s scenery and serenity. She found the Coastside through the San Mateo County Film Commission, after describing her ideal seaside setting.
Still seas and bright November days set the backdrop for McCarthy’s story. Consistent sunshine didn’t spoil the film’s sad moments, she said. In fact, they give the film a unique edge.
“Sometimes it’s more poignant to be sad on a beautiful day,” she said.
