Any worries about pre-game nerves were gone by the first drive.

For the first time in eight games, the Coastside Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee scored on its first offensive drive, Saturday. Not that it mattered before, as the Cougars won all but one of those games, including the 13-12 win over the Bayside Broncos on Nov. 13 to claim the Division III title.

But that first score Saturday set the tone and Coastside never looked back, defeating Evergreen, Wash., 32-13 to claim the Pacific Northwest Regional Championship for Division III.

Coastside dominated the first half, taking a 19-0 lead at intermission. Matt Spigelman finished that first drive with a short scoring run.

The Cougars put the game out of reach on the first drive of the second half, as Anthony DeMartini scored on a 75-yard run on the first play from scrimmage.

Meanwhile, Chase Hofmann paced the defense with five sacks.

Coastside concludes the season with an 11-1 record.

In the victory over Bayside, the Cougars took the lead for good in the fourth quarter as Max Jenkins blocked a punt and Hofmann recovered the ball in the end zone for the score.

Jenkins recovered two fumbles in the game. Ryan Staal broke up four passes and added an interception. Two of Sean Baird’s 11 tackles were for losses. Hofmann added nine tackles.
