| Car smashes into fruit stand By Mark Noack [ mark@hmbreview.com ] Published/Last Modified on Friday, November 20, 2009 2:46 PM PST An eastbound car collided into the side of the G. Berta fruit stand on Highway 92 at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The driver of the car, a silver Honda Civic, told CHP officers that she was cut off on the highway and had to swerve sharply out of the way. Her car clipped a metal pole on the side of the road, which completely tore off her car’s rear bumper.
Her car then crashed head-on into the west side of the fruit stand, which was closed at the time. No injuries were reported from the collision. G. Berta fruit stand owner, Greg Chiesa, said he and his wife had both taken the day off to run errands in Burlingame and fortunately weren’t around. “If I was here, I would’ve been right in my office. This crash probably would’ve waken me up,” Chiesa said. “You have to be lighthearted about this.” Officers estimate the crash completely totaled the car and caused about $40,000 of damage to the fruit stand.
