Plan for La Honda preserve moves to review

Published/Last Modified on Friday, Nov 20, 2009 - 02:15:36 pm PST

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District adopted a tentative master plan for a 5,759-acre land preserve at a meeting Thursday night.

The plan is a step forward for the district in establishing long-term trails for hikers and bikers to the La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve. However, implementing the plan will occur over the next three decades.

“It’ll be at least five years before the public access is open,” said district spokeswoman Leigh Ann Maze. “Most of these trails need to be planned and permitted and built still.”

The district’s decision moves the plan along into the environmental review phase. People will have a chance to comment on the plan probably in February, Maze said.
