'La Vie en Rose' to bloom on the coast

Published/Last Modified on Friday, Nov 20, 2009 - 02:15:36 pm PST

The French are known for romantic love songs, and El Granada  chanteuse Claire Diament-Turner will prove it with an afternoon of “pretty much all romantic love songs” Saturday at Sense of Peace.

A 1978 California transplant from her native Quebec City, an El Granadan since 1994, Diament-Turner was invited to sing at Sense of Peace by owner Sung Lee. She will offer, in French, the works of well-known, recent and major French composers.

Those include Armenian-French singer Charles Aznavour, French songwriter Charles Trenet (1913-2001) who wrote upbeat songs about the little things in life, Belgian songwriter Jacques Brel (1929-1978) and French cultural icon Edith Piaf (1915-1963.)

Does Diament-Turner have a signature song? Mais oui  — but of course: Piaf standard “La Vie en Rose.”

“I have to sing it at least once in every one of my sets,” she said, in her softly French-accented voice.

Sense of Peace is located at 270 Capistrano Road, Suite 18, in Princeton. For information, call 712-8900.
