More H1N1 vaccine shipped, but county lacking

Published/Last Modified on Friday, Nov 20, 2009 - 02:15:36 pm PST

San Mateo County has been bumped to the front of the line for California counties receiving the H1N1 vaccine, but health officials here say they still lack an adequate supply.

Last week, the county received 76,000 more doses of flu vaccine, which may have already been administered to high-risk patients, according to health officials. County officials don’t know whether health care providers have any of that vaccine left.

In previous weeks, San Mateo County was being given an unequal allotment of the flu vaccine by the state, so California health officials decided to prioritize new shipments to the county.

San Mateo County is distributing all new supplies of the flu vaccine to its network of public and private physicians. County health officials are urging patients to stay in contact with their providers to learn when they can receive an immunization.

New information on vaccine supplies will updated on the county health department Web site at www.smhealth.org/swineflu and on the flu hotline at (650) 573-3927.
