For Adam Underwood, the best thing about winning the Men’s A Division doubles tennis title with Robert Garcia at the Harvest Cup Doubles Tournament wasn’t the win, the prizes or even playing tennis on a sunny weekend.

The biggest plus for Underwood and most the other competitors was his proximity to the site. Underwood had to drive about five minutes from his home in Half Moon Bay to the Colony Club Tennis Courts, where the tournament took place. “Usually, you have to drive an hour-and-a-half to two hours to go to a tournament,” Underwood said.

Garcia added that the atmosphere added to the enjoyment of the tournament.

“There was no pressure at all on winning,” Garcia said. “Everyone was very friendly.”

This is the second year the tournament has taken place.

With the comments and praise of the tournament organizers, Kevin Harrington and Travis Bertram, nearly all the participants in the five divisions were looking forward to next year’s tournament.

“We have all played in a lot of different tournaments,” said John Corallo, who teamed up with Dan Sullivan to win the Men’s B Division title. “There was just a lot of fun in this tournament.”

Family and friends of the competitors attended the tournament. A few lounge chairs were set up around the courts, allowing fans to relax while watching the matches.

Just about everyone knew everyone else, whether they played in a team competition or just met at a court at either the Colony Club or at Half Moon Bay High School.

Micki Seibel and Carrie Birgbauer won the Women’s A Division with Terry Sullivan and Kari Kilstrom taking the Women’s B Division. Ron Strong and Ruthie Strong won the Mixed Doubles Division.
