Puente invites Coastsiders to remember the dead

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Nov 04, 2009 - 11:47:26 am PST

Puente de la Costa Sur, or the Puente Resource Center in Pescadero, invites the community to celebrate the Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Pescadero Elementary School.

A long-established and beloved celebration in the Spanish-speaking world, Día de los Muertos is an annual occasion to remember relatives, friends or other loved ones who have passed away. Traditionally, they are remembered with photographs, flowers and their favorite foods placed on altars set up in the home.

Friday’s event comes complete with food for dinner for the living and music played by a disc jockey. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share and offerings of photos or food for the community altar.

This is the second such celebration. Last year’s event drew around 60 South Coast residents.

The celebration will be held in the multipurpose room of the elementary school, located at 620 North St. in Pescadero.

For information, contact Veronica Ortega at Puente at 879-1691, extension 101.
