Big Wave draft EIR released

San Mateo County planners released the long-awaited first draft Environmental Impact Report for the Big Wave project Wednesday night. The report calls for a host of specific measures to reduce the impact to nearby residents, including installation of a traffic signal on Highway 1 in Moss Beach.

The proposed development calls for a three-story compound along Airport Boulevard in Princeton consisting of office space for lease and a wellness center for people with developmental disabilities. The land is currently used for agriculture.

Big Wave Group founder Jeff Peck aims to build a self-sustaining operation, complete with a variety of eco-friendly amenities that include solar cells and geothermic cooling systems. People at the wellness center would work to keep up the office building and the surrounding area, while revenue from office space leases would provide the financial backbone of the development.

The EIR points out five key issues of significance necessitating special attention: traffic flow, lighting, construction noise, drainage and sensitive prehistoric Native American burial grounds that overlap with the project zone.
