An 18-year-old Half Moon Bay resident was arrested Tuesday night for possessing a large quantity of medical marijuana that he was planning to resell to Half Moon Bay High School students.
The teenage suspect, identified by police as recent Pilarcitos High School graduate Kevin Evans, was pulled over by police officers around 11 p.m. for driving erratically and weaving into oncoming traffic lanes on Highway 1.
A police spokesman said Evans showed signs of intoxication and was already being arrested for drunken driving, when officers decided to also search his car. A cursory inspection turned up 17 small bags of marijuana and an electronic weighing scale stashed near the driver’s seat.

Police Chief Don O’Keefe said Evans had a newly issued medicinal marijuana card and his Ziploc bags of marijuana had logos identifying them as prescriptions that he had bought legally from a San Francisco dispensary.
Evans gave officers his permission to inspect his cell phone, which officers noticed was receiving a steady number of text messages such as “I need more chronic weed”, and “Hey, I need (pot) today.”
Evans reportedly admitted those messages were from his clients who were buying marijuana from him. At least five of Evan’s buyers were reportedly Half Moon Bay High School students interested in buying marijuana during the school lunch break.
“He said he’s been selling for three to four weeks,” O’Keefe said. “He had text messages … and they were stored on his iPhone with references.”
O’Keefe said police are questioning the identified high school students, one of whom — a 16-year-old sophomore — was arrested on Wednesday for possession of drugs. The police chief said they would also question the San Francisco physician who signed off on Evans' medical grounds for needing a marijuana prescription.
Evasn was arrested and taken to jail on charges of drunken-driving and possessing marijuana for sale. The case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review.
