Battery

10:39 a.m., Oct. 6, Kelly Avenue

A woman was spotted yelling angrily at a 36-year-old man in downtown Half Mon Bay. The woman told police that the man insulted her as she walked by, and when she began arguing with him over the insult, he became aggressive and tried to choke her. A witness at the scene said the woman tried to throw a lemon at the man before he attacked her. The woman refused medical aid, and police cited the suspected attacker on battery charges.

A man reported receiving vaguely threatening text messages from an unknown person.

11:07 p.m., Oct. 9, Main Street

An 18-year-old driver was pulled over for a vehicle violation, and police officers found that he was drunk.

Fraud

5:03 p.m., Sept. 17, Highway 1

A man from outside Half Moon Bay reported multiple mysterious charges to his debt card, including a $200 purchase from the Strawflower Village CVS drugstore

Restraining order

8:50 a.m., Oct. 6, Spindrift Way

Police responding to a medical call discovered that the person needing aid was also prohibited under a restraining order from being with a man at the same home. The case is being forwarded to the district attorney's office.

10:09 p.m., Oct. 8, St. Andrews Lane

A woman reported her ex-boyfriend was calling her cell phone in violation of a restraining order.

Theft

4:30 p.m., Oct. 8, Lewis Foster Drive

An iPod was stolen from a Half Moon Bay High School student.

11 a.m., Oct. 9, Mizzen Lane

A resident left a black-leather couch on the sidewalk for pickup by a charity. It was reportedly stolen when someone took it and replaced it with a dingy sofa. The stolen leather couch was reportedly worth $500, but the sofa left by the suspected thieves was worthless — the charity refused to take it. 

Montara

Rescue

8:49 a.m., Oct. 3, Highway 1

A surfer was stranded on some rocks off the shore of Montara State Beach. A rescue team was able to get to the surfer, who was uninjured.

Moss Beach

Drugs

8:16 p.m., Oct. 7, Vermont Avenue

Two people were stopped for a traffic violation, and both were caught with methamphetamine. The two suspects were arrested and taken to jail.

Vandalism

5:45 p.m., Oct. 1, Vermont Avenue

An unknown person keyed the side of a parked car, causing about $1,000 in damage.

10:43 p.m., Oct. 1, Prospect Way

A woman was arrested when Sheriff’s deputies determined she was under the influence of narcotics.
