| Former GSD board member files for write-in candidacy By Greg Thomas [ greg@hmbreview.com ] Published/Last Modified on Thursday, October 1, 2009 10:37 AM PDT El Granada resident Charlie Hall filed with the county Elections Office Wednesday afternoon to run as a write-in for a seat on the Granada Sanitary District. He joins five candidates vying for three spots on the district’s board in the upcoming election on Nov. 3. They are incumbents Ric Lohman, Leonard Woren and Gael Erickson, and newcomers Bill Griffis and Lisa McCaffrey. Hall, originally from Kentucky, moved to the Coastside in 1992 and began looking for a way to get involved in local government, he says. He served on the Granada Sanitary District board from 1992 to 1999. During that period he acted as treasurer of the district and as the district’s liaison to Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside. He also helped form and steer a budget, audit and finance committee on the district. Hall touts himself as a “finance person” with no political agenda other than “just wanting to do the right thing.” “If people elect me there’ll be better communication on the board,” he said. “It’ll be operated as a business – as it should be. Money will be spent properly.” Hall currently helps coordinate events for the American Legion Post 474 in Princeton. When asked why he waited until after the initial filing period for candidacy, Hall said he wanted to stand out from the pack. “I didn’t want to align myself with any particular group.” The window to submit write-in ballots for candidacy to special districts in the county ends Oct. 20. |
