A person of many interests and talents, Mary was truly devoted to her work with young children at the Coastside Infant/Toddler Center and other Bay Area children’s programs. A dedicated professional, Mary pursued her education in child development locally at the College of San Mateo and Canada College. She received her Masters Degree in human development from Pacific Oaks College in 2000. After moving to the Sacramento area, Mary continued to work with children and families and taught early childhood education classes at UC Davis and Sacramento City College. She never wavered in her belief that together we could (and must) create a safe and peaceful world where all children could thrive.
Mary spent the last few years of her life developing her talents as an artist. She worked in a number of media, including fabric and felt, ceramics, mosaics, collage, and glass. She also created imaginative pieces of jewelry using silver clay and other materials. Mary became a certified silver clay instructor and taught classes in the use of that medium. She also developed a close relationship with an arts association in Sacramento called Spirit in the Arts, finding inspiration and fellowship there.
