Former patients of the closed Coastside Family Medical Center will get a new, albeit temporary, opportunity to retrieve their medical records, according to the office of the bankruptcy trustee.
U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Dennis Montali authorized the Trustee E. Lynn Schoenmann Friday morning to notify former patients that they can receive the original copies of their medical charts.
Jim Seeman, a spokesman for the trustee, said her office is currently drafting a letter that will be mailed out to the approximately 13,000 Coastside medical center patients with instructions on obtaining their records. Seeman said the mailing could be sent out as soon as the end of next week, but he could not provide further details.

The new effort to distribute records will be a temporary fix to help patients who did not get their records earlier. The trustee’s office warns that the deadline for records requests could be as soon as 10 days after the mailing is sent out, so patients should be prepared to act quickly.
