In his early years Robert was a test car driver for British Motor Cars. He was a pioneer programmer and systems analyst for many years . Later during the Y2K scare he was approached to become a consultant to try and remedy that threat. But Robert with his own special brand of humor, found the predicament amusing and declined. He had a wonderful time working with his racing buddies at Dudley Perkins Motorcycles in SF as parts manager. The Phipps’s also spent time in The Dalles Oregon owning and operating Sunset Feed Store and Mill before returning once again to El Granada.
Bob had a passion for motorcycle and sports car racing and has raced at such locals as Old Cotati, Belmont and Laguna Seca raceways. Bob was old school and custom made many of his own motorcycle parts for his Indian and his many other bikes. He rode the local hills with his children and names such as Mert Lawwell, Jim Belland, Mark and Scott Brelsford .
