Robert Curran Phipps passed away peacefully Monday Aug 3rd at the age of 79 with his wife Constance of 53 years by his side. A fourth generation San Franciscan, he was born on March 6, 1930 to Floyd Phipps and Edna Curran- Phipps. He attended Balboa High School before leaving to join the U.S. Army Air Force where he served as a chaplains assistant in the Caribbean at the end of World War Two.

Bob had a passion for motorcycle and sports car racing and has raced at such locals as Old Cotati, Belmont and Laguna Seca raceways. Bob was old school and custom made many of his own motorcycle parts for his Indian and his many other bikes. He rode the local hills with his children and names such as Mert Lawwell, Jim Belland, Mark and Scott Brelsford .

Robert enjoyed meeting for coffee with friends at locales such as Barbara’s Fishtrap, The El Granada Market and The Ketch. In addition to his wife Constance, Mr. Phipps is survived by daughter Kathleen (Todd ) and son’s Daniel ( Kim ) Stephen ( Jodie ) Matthew  and wife Luciana.  Grandfather to Bryan Maxam-Phipps, David Phipps, Clinton and Alexandra Johnston, Jessica Ortiz ( Paul ) Jennifer Hearnley and soon to arrive baby Lucas Phipps.  He is preceded in death by his brothers James and Floyd.

A Rosary will be held in his honor at 7 p.m. Aug. 10th 2009 at Miller-Dutra on Kelly Street. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Pillar Church, Kelly St Tuesday Aug 11th at 11 a.m.
