Half Moon Bay finishes the regular season with an 8-8 record.
But an 11-2 win over Burlingame on July 15 clinched a spot in the Area 2 Tournament for Half Moon Bay.

Regardless of the outcome, Half Moon Bay would play again today in the double-elimination tournament at James Logan High School in Union City.
Barragan has the same attitude for the tournament that he has for the season.
“It’s about an opportunity to play,” Barragan said. “The kids have at least two more chances to show what they can do.”
Most of the players on the team have not yet played for the Half Moon Bay High School varsity baseball team.
The summer has given Barragan a chance to put players in different positions, seeing how things turn out.
“We had outfielder Juan Ayon play second and third for us,” Barragan said. “We also had catcher Felipe Nah play second and shortstop.”
Sometimes, the moves are done just to experiment. Other times, the moves are made out of necessity. Players have missed games due to family commitments.
“When some people don’t show up, we have to put people in different positions,” Barragan said. “This doesn’t happen during the high school season.”
With several players missing Sunday, Barragan feared the remaining players might to want to call it a season following the doubleheader loss.
“The kids all want to go to the Area Tournament,” Barragan said. “Talent wise, we can compete with anyone.”
