Passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by those he loved, after an unexpected illness, at the age of 53. Jerry was deeply committed to his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Kate. Loving brother to Sandy, Sue, and Gail; father to Amanda, Tina, and Brett; grandpa to Devian; uncle to Makailah, Ashley, Taylor, Layla, and Grayson. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Boots, and nephew Goney. Jerry was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Crestmoor High School in San Bruno, Calif., with the class of 1975. He worked as a facilities management manager. He recently relocated to Reno, Nev. with his wife, Kate, where they enjoyed adventuring on weekends. Jerry was an avid Giants fan and a devout “church-goer” who loved the old crying country music. He was fondly called “Coach” by those who loved and remembered him from his coaching days in Half Moon Bay, Calif.

Jerry’s wonderful energy and sense of humor were felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His generosity and love of life were ever-present. He will always be missed and his kind spirit will continue to guide and inspire the many people whose lives he touched. A celebration of Jerry’s life will take place on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at 11:00 am, at Cameron’s Restaurant located at 1410 Cabrillo Highway South, Half Moon Bay. A fund has been set up in the name of grandson, Devian Varela; Wells Fargo Acct # 9918017725.
