Ebbel, Terry winners at horse shoe competition

Roy Ebbel and Bill Terry, both members of the Half Moon Bay Horseshoe Club, won their respective divisions at the Charlie Hall Tournament, June 4. Ebbel won Group 1 with Terry Farrell, also of the Half Moon Bay Horseshoe Club second.

Terry won Group 2 with club mate Joe Sciarra second.

Raymond Volis won Group 3 with Jim Crouch second. Both are members of the San Jose Eagle Club. Al Hoelscher of the Tri-Valley Club took Group 4 with Stephen Cardoza of San Jose second.

Fulp-Allens third wrestling tournament

Sara and Katherine Fulp-Allen finished third in their respective weight divisions at the 2009 World Team Wrestling Trials, held May 30-31 at Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Sara Fulp-Allen went 5-1 in the tournament at 48 kilograms/105.8 pounds.

Katherine Fulp-Allen competed in the 51-kilogram/112.4 pound division. She clinched third place with a victory over Gabrielle Henry.

Both girls, Half Moon Bay High School graduates, are ranked second nationally.

Foyer wins sports writing award

Mark Foyer, sports writer for the Half Moon Bay Review, won an award for the third straight year from the California Prep Sports Writers Association.

Foyer claimed the award for best news story for a newspaper with less than 100,000 circulation. He received the award for his April 8 coverage on funding for high school sports.

Foyer has worked for the Review for 12 years.
