Rescue teams search for lost surfer

Coastside rescue officials are searching for a surfer who was reportedly went missing in heavy waves at Pomponio State Beach.

The incident was reported to rescue officials around 5:40 p.m. The unidentified surfer went underwater after being hit by waves and did not surface, according to a friend who was also out surfing at the beach.

“I lost touch with him,” the surfer said, shivering. “He just disappeared.”

Rescue squads from the Coastside Fire Protection District, Sheriff’s Office, and California State Parks arrived at the beach to search for the lost surfer. State Parks officers were using jet skis to scout the shoreline.
