Thinking about traffic and trails

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Jun 03, 2009 - 11:11:15 am PDT

Organizers are planning a series of events later this month to highlight transportation issues – including promoting walking – throughout the Midcoast. Plans call for a community meeting the night of June 25 followed by an all-day design workshop the following Saturday and a presentation of the plan concepts on June 27.

The gatherings are sponsored by the San Mateo County Department of Parks and the Local Government Commission, a nonprofit group working to create more livable communities.

All of the planning events will be held at the multipurpose room at El Granada Elementary School, 400 Santiago Road in El Granada.

Coastsiders will work with professional planners and, in the end, the plan is to produce a professional design that preserves the character of the coast, better manages traffic, improves safety and other admirable goals.

A new chapter for Woo school

Ed Wilkinson stands in the entryway of the El Granada school that carries his name. The tiled floor sweeps past open classroom doors; outside, grassy hills slope down to the sea. The building is small but the ambience is vast, in a way that mirrors the school.
