Joe Botelho passed away peacefully on May 12, 2009 from lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 17, 1936 in Sao Miguel, Azores. He resided in Half Moon Bay for forty years. After retiring from Ocean Colony, he and his wife moved to Manteca.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, children Christine, Mark and Sandra. Granddaughters Zea, Kyla, Sabina and grandson Kasen. He is also survived by his brothers Alfredo, Manuel, Carlos, Eduardo and sister Fernanda. He was also uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Joe's passion was soccer. He was a founder of Half Moon Bay and Coastside soccer leagues; a founding member of the Portuguese Culture Center and a member of the I.D.E.S. Society.

His funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of the Pillar Church on May 15, 2009. Donations can be made in his memory to the American Lung Association.

A new chapter for Woo school
